Practice and learn towards our goal of singing High Mass every Sunday. For now, we will try to sing High Mass twice a month. We invite all interested singers to join the schola on each Sunday. Rehearsals are:
- at 6:45AM before sung Mass (run-through. Only 2nd and 4th Sundays),
- at 8:00AM after sung Mass, when possible
- At home, practicing with the files below.
For each Sung Mass, we will sing:
- Introit : from the Liber Usualis (same at Graduale Romanum , or Liber Brevior)
- Gradual – Tract : from the “Rossini” version (You can download full Rossini book here: rossini proper – full pdf )
- Offertory: from the “Rossini” version, and we will sing an Hymn
- Communion: from the Liber Usualis, with verses from communio (download)
For those of us who may be more familiar with the “Vatican II” Novus Ordo Mass than with the Tridentine Mass, here is a 2-page guide for the choir: Choir Guide to Mass
To study Gregorian Notation and Latin Pronunciation, the best “first book” for chant is “The Parish Book of Chant”, and you can download it here : parishbookchant_2nd or purchase it from many fine vendors on the internet (Amazon example ). The “guide to singing chant”, starting on page 305 of the “Parish Book” is a must-read for any new singer.
In the foreseeable future, we will be singing the Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei from Mass VIII “De Angelis”. Practice here: Mass VIII Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei .
Also we will be singing the Gloria and the Credo found on that page: Click and Scroll to Gloria and Credo
Next “Missa Cantata” dates at the John Paul II Center:
Note 1: download the Tridentine 2018 Calendar to match Sundays and celebration.
Note 2: if you can, please print the music and constitute for yourself a folder to bring to church. I try to bring some extra copies, but not always enough. Your help is appreciated.
Our Marian Hymn, sung at the end of Mass, with be “Regina Caeli”, replacing the “Salve Regina”. We will sing “Regina Caeli” until Pentecost Sunday, then again “Salver Regina” until Advent.
