November-December

Learn how to read music here.

Click on the coming Sundays to download sheet music and sound files of the sung Proper of the Mass. (Click here for the 1962 Traditional Calendar) The sound files are unaccompanied (a-cappella) to replicate as closely as possible the conditions of individual practice at home. Three versions:

  • Roman Gradual, in Latin (the universal and official music of each Mass)
  • Two English translations: a very simple one, and another closer to the Latin, original language of the Roman rite.

Hello, I have been looking for a resource like longbeachchant.com for a very long time. You saved my bacon this weekend with the excellent entrance antiphon for the Lateran Dedication. Having the notation is so nice, but to have the audio as well is a dream come true. Really, really appreciate the effort!

Thank you for the feedback. This antiphon is the Latin-melody-related choice from Father Weber’s “English Proper” (https://ignatius.com/the-proper-of-the-mass-for-sundays-and-solemnities-pmssh/ ) . In the book, he typically has 4 choices for each antiphon, in decreasing difficulty. For most Sundays, you can find a download of that first choice (my favorite), with a recording if you scroll down in the post. On many Sundays, I have a simpler choice on top of the post, but this Latin-melody-related choice should always be available when you scroll down… This website started as a “local” project, hence my initial choices. I am delighted it is finding a use beyond Long Beach! Thanks again, Hervé (Airvey)

I wasn’t aware of that resource, thanks Hervé! I just ordered my own. I will still be back for the audio files, as I can’t really sing the proper notes unless I can hear them.

On Father Weber’s website (not the easiest to navigate…) you can also find the proper for Weekdays (vol 2), the Sanctoral (vol 3) and the Ritual (vol 3) as well as all the organ accompaniments… Link : https://sacredmusicus.wordpress.com/2022/01/05/proper-of-the-mass-all-links/
